"An amazing group of young creative women who have combined their individual musical talent in order to form a powerful chamber music sound that is as captivating as they come.
In the mid ‘80’s when I came from the United States to live and work in Italy there were very few women saxophonists studying at the Conservatory level. Over these 25 years there has been a significant increase of female enrollment in the Conservatory with almost half of the students being female today.
This quintet, fruit of these years has already embarked upon a journey that includes opening new frontiers for women saxophonists and pianists as well as chamber music in Italy and abroad.
Their choice of repertory which includes numerous works by George Gershwin transcribed by them for the Quintet formation certainly demonstrates the saxophone’s ability to perform music that spans from classical to jazz and beyond.
What is it that connects this quintet to Gershwin? It is the same desire that Gershwin himself had to bring on radical changes by introducing jazz as well as new music to important classical concert halls.
This new CD demonstrates the group’s extraordinary originality, creativity and excellent technical skills. It should be a must for all saxophonists as we take our place in history as one of the most remarkable instruments of this century."
